Young Children
Farm Stories for Wigglers Series
The Farm Stories for Wigglers series has the same delightful characters, and similar story lines as the Farm Adventures Series which was written for older children.
The “Wigglers” series was written for youngsters ages 3-5 and those with attention challenges. Your little ones will listen to interactive stories about a formidable lost pug, a loveable barn cat, delightful dairy cows and humorous goats, some rescued horses, little Bantam chickens, and amazing ducks.
They’ll also hear about some incredible wildlife such as Orca whales, deer, squirrels, owls, eagles, and snakes! Get your kids, grab a book, and come visit the farm! Get ready for some fun because a couple of them even have fun songs!

"My pre-k kiddos loved the story of Glori. They got very involved with her situation and worried about what would happen and then loved the happy ending all within 15-20minutes reading time which was perfect for them."
Wilbur, The Cat
Wilbur the Cat is the “wigglers’ version” of my children’s picture book, The Adventures of Wilbur, A Part-time Farm Cat. This book is shorter and written for children under age 5 and for those with attention challenges. It is part of the series Farm Stories for Wigglers. Wilbur is a handsome, brown tabby cat who enjoys roaming around his quiet, rural neighborhood. One day his travels take him to a yellow farm house where he has many fun adventures and he makes a very special friend. If you have young children who love cats, they will enjoy reading this story with you.
"I bought this book for a 4 year-old friend’s daughter. She absolutely loved it! The illustrations are beautiful and the colors vibrant. The story of Wilbur, a wanderer tabby cat, kept her enthralled and absorbed until the end. She asked me to read it for her again and again. Definitely a winner!"
Julip, the Cow
If you know a youngster who loves cows then this beautifully illustrated children’s book is for you and that special child! Meet Julip, a wonderful Jersey cow who is a mommy and a grandmother. She is proud of her herd and she sings when her heart is full of love and joy. This book is for children under age 5 and for those with attention challenges. It is the shorter version of the book My Musical Cow.
"I recently read an ARC copy of Julip The Cow: Farm Stories for Wigglers. Excellent choice for young readers. This is a very endearing story about Julip and other farm animals. The book provides a good introduction to farm animals for younger readers. Also included are illustrations which kids of all ages enjoy."
Orchid, the Horse
Do you know a pre-school or kindergarten age child who is nuts about horses? If the young children in your life are horse crazy kids, they’ll enjoy this delightful picture book. Janet was about their age when she rode a horse for the first time. Janet dreamed of one day having a horse of her own. Orchid the Horse is the shorter “wiggler’s” version of the original longer book, Dream Horse, and part of the Farm Stories for Wigglers’ series.
"We read this story to our 3 year old and the interaction the author brings forth throughout the book to engage the child is really great. She loves the story and seeing the child’s dream come true."
Pearl, the Wonder Horse
The horse stood by herself. Her head was low; almost touching the ground. Her lower lip hung down and her eyes were closed. I knew her name so I called to her. “Winnie?” I said, but she ignored me. She looked sad, forgotten, and alone. She wasn’t interested in me but I was interested in her. I hoped that some day we would be good friends. This is the story of a horse that needed a new home and the woman who needed a riding horse. Could they form a bond that would overcome the horse’s anger and pain?
"Jan continues to offer her mix of heartwarming memories and gentle education for young and old alike. I look forward to seeing Jan’s next inspiration of the animal family in her life. She leaves me smiling every day, with a tear or two, along the way. As always Jan, well done❣️"
Little Chickens
Janet remembers the special time she shared with her grandfather on his chicken farm back when she was a little girl. She visited the farm the day after Pop-Pop received a shipment of 200 baby chicks. She was just six-years old, but that event was life changing as one day she would be raising chickens of her own. If your young children love chickens, they’ll enjoy this heartwarming read aloud book about raising little chickens! It is for readers under age 5 and those with attention challenges.
“Little Chickens is a very sweet story about baby chicks and we learn many interesting facts about chickens. There is even a fun song to sing with your little kiddos! I totally enjoy sharing this book with the grandkids!”
Four Laughing Duckies
Four Laughing Duckies is a fun read aloud picture book that is sure to become a family favorite. Toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners will love listening to this entertaining and educational story. Children will enjoy snuggling in and interacting with the questions asked throughout the book. They will revel in singing the classic childhood song of Little Duckie Duddle. Young children, their parents, grandparents, and teachers alike will delight in the beautiful, colorful illustrations depicting the baby ducklings as they grow into clever and amazing adults.
Wild Critters
Sit on my lap, snuggle into my arms.
We’ll read a story about life on the farm.
We’ll meet owls and squirrels, snakes, and deer,
And all of the time, I’ll be holding you near.
Your little ones will love snuggling with you as they learn about the wild critters on the farm. They’ll meet a mama deer and her sweet twin fawns, be introduced to Orca whales and a hungry gray squirrel, surprised by a garter snake, and amazed by a Barred Owl. This read aloud picture book is ideal for children under age 5 and for those with attention challenges. Wild Critters is part of the Farm Stories for Wigglers Series.
"This is a book that teaches children to pay attention to the wild critters that share their space. Learning to see, and delight in the natural world, is an important part of childhood. Crossen's curiosity, and the way she embraces her wildlife neighbors, introduces young learners to animals they may have never encountered in the wild (or in their own back yards). Her message to appreciate every living creature just as it is may be the most important lesson of all."
Hootie the Hero
“EAGLES!” I shouted, and pointed at the big birds that seemed to fill up the sky. Two Bald Eagles flew low over the garden where our ducks and chickens spend their time. We need to keep our birds safe from these sky predators! But how would we do that?
DON’T WORRY…everyone survives in this fascinating read aloud picture book about birds. Kindergarten and preschool students discover interesting facts about Bald Eagles. They feel empathy while witnessing a hands-on encounter with a Great Horned Owl. Your kids may even start cheering and participate in a joyous celebratory event! Little ones realize that champions come in many shapes and sizes when they meet a unique hero who protects the farm animals.
Hootie The Hero is the final story in the Farm Stories for Wigglers series for children under age 5 and for those with attention challenges.
"Informative in a warm and gentle way. Jan Crossen's children's books are always sweet and educational, without being condescending or forced. She clearly loves both children and the natural world we are a part of, and brings you along with her as she explores and interacts with her environment. You and the young one(-s) in your life will enjoy them and as well as learn something!"

FOREVER
This is the true story of a young African American boy named, Joshua, who was living in foster care. This story is about the night he met the white woman who would become his adoptive mother. It is the heart warming tale of connection and the beginnings of a forever family.
“What a gift to read this story! The book is written as a gift from the author to her granddaughter, the daughter of the author's adopted son. So there are many layers of gifts to this story. First is the gift of a forever son to the author. Next is the gift of a forever mom to the son. And then the gift of love all around, both giving and receiving. It's a heartwarming true story of how the boy and his mother chose each other and stayed together. A book like this is a way to help create the essential answers to the questions of: who am I...where did I come from...what is the story of my family? This author gave such a gift to her son and granddaughter. I look forward to updates to this family's story as time goes on. It's a simply told, profound, and lovingly narrated story, wonderful for readers and listeners of all ages.”
